Energy Central Campus Phase 2: Energy Central Institute
Overview
Blyth Energy Central Institute Public Consultation Questionnaire As part of the £95m Energising Blyth regeneration programme, Northumberland County Council (NCC) has secured funding by the UK Government, the County Council, North East Combined Authority and support from other partners in order to grow, renew and connect the town.
Northumberland County Council have secured the funding through the Future High Street Fund and Town Deal funding to revitalise the town centre and transform the wider Blyth area. The proposed Blyth Energy Central Institute, alongside other Energising Blyth projects including the recently approved Blyth Culture Hub, seeks to facilitate the ambition to provide a major attractor that will increase knowledge and skills. This new facility is expected to generate significant public benefits by enhancing knowledge and skills in the growing energy sector, increasing footfall and spending, boosting civic pride, and stimulating the town’s regeneration and night-time economy.
The overall vision, is for Blyth to be a leading UK and global centre for the growing offshore wind and renewable energy sector, built on its unique natural assets, its proven innovation centres and industrial strengths. The proposed construction of Blyth Energy Central Institute offers a significant opportunity for this vision to be achieved with its purpose to provide a new higher-level skills and innovation facility focused on advancing expertise in the energy sector, particularly at degree and PhD levels. The ECI aims to become a hub for collaboration between energy businesses, OREC, and North East universities, fostering technological innovation and maintaining a leading position in energy sector growth.
This consultation gives the local community and businesses the opportunity to comment on the development in advance of submitting the planning application for consideration by the Local Planning Authority.
