Proposed PAN reduction for Swarland Primary School
Overview
We have identified that it would be appropriate to amend the PAN of Swarland Primary School from 17 to 15 in order to match it more effectively with the needs of its community in relation to number of places and to support the school in implementing effective staffing structures. If approved by the Council’s Cabinet, the change to the PAN at Swarland would be effective from entry into Reception in September 2027. The proposed change to the school’s PAN would bring it into line with other schools in the Alnwick Partnership and indeed across the country, where most schools are structured as full or half-forms of entry.
Pupils in Swarland are currently organised into 4 classes, which are Reception, Yr1/2; Yr3/4; and Yr5/6. By moving to a PAN of 15, the school will also be able to maintain stable staffing arrangements throughout any school year.
Why your views matter
Your views will be considered when making recommendations to the Council’s Cabinet who are the decision makers for the admission arrangements for Local Authority Maintained schools. Cabinet will consider the outcome of this consultation in February 2026.
If you would like to put forward any views on the proposal to reduce the PAN of Swarland to 15 with effect from September 2027, please complete this the short questionnaire. This should be submitted by Monday, 15 December 2025.
