Northumberland County Council Rights of Way Improvement Plan 2025-2035
Overview
Northumberland is the fifth largest and one of the most rural counties in England. Whilst the south-east of the county contains substantial urban settlements, much of the rest of the county is characterised by sparsely populated areas encompassing three protected landscapes.
Northumberland's network of public rights of way provides access to the countryside and to the county's unique landscapes and places for a wide range of people to experience and enjoy. Whilst the County Council has a range of duties in terms of its day to day management and maintenance of public rights of way, it is able also to bring about improvements to access. This Draft Rights of Way Improvement Plan sets out the Council's approach to enhancement of the County's public paths across the next ten years.
