Corbridge Station Link

Overview

Overview:

Northumberland County Council is proposing improvements along Station Road to create a safer, more accessible route between Corbridge town centre and the train station on Station Road.

This scheme will connect homes, local businesses, sports clubs and the wider Corbridge–Hexham walking and cycling route, helping more people travel safely and comfortably as an alternative option to using the car.

Vision

The project will seek to:

  • deliver a high-quality connection for walking, wheeling, and cycling
  • enhance existing active travel opportunities for residents, workers and visitors
  • upgrade existing provision so that it meets current design standards
  • improve the visibility of Station Road junction with Tinkler’s Bank by adding new safety features.
  • provide a safer and attractive route for residents and visitors into Corbridge
  • enhance parking for residents by widening the narrow footway, including new road markings to tackle nuisance and dangerous parking obstructions

Early engagement

We recently conducted early engagement with:

  • residents
  • user groups
  • the local Parish Council
  • community groups
  • local businesses

We are now ready to present the plans to the wider community via a public consultation with a drop-in event.

External funding to support healthier, safer journeys

Northumberland County Council has secured £800k of grant funding from the North East Mayoral Strategic Authority’s Consolidated Active Travel Fund (CATF). The aim of the fund is to connect people to:

  • places of leisure
  • education
  • shops
  • employment opportunities
  • onward connecting transport (bus and rail) via walking, wheeling and cycling

The fund can enable people to choose active travel by making it feel safer, attractive and connected as part of a joined-up network. This scheme proposes safer crossings, enhanced green space to support more wildlife, and improved access for people using mobility aids (wheelchairs, canes, pushchairs).

By doing so, we aim to increase footfall for local businesses and create more travel options for residents and visitors of all ages.

Consultation

We are asking for your feedback to help shape how the final design will look and feel before construction.

Feedback is online and in person at one of our drop-in events.

Drop-in event

We are holding a public drop-in event on Thursday 25 June 2026 between 3pm and 6pm. Here you can:

  • explore the early designs in person
  • offer constructive feedback and ideas towards the final design
  • meet the team and ask questions about this scheme
  • discover active travel routes in and around Corbridge

The consultation opens on 25 June 2026 and closes on the 26 July 2026.

Why your views matter

By taking part, you get to help shape the final designs as we head towards the next stage of the project. It is important to share your views so that we have a walking, wheeling and cycling route that supports as many people as possible.
